OBJECTIVE OF DMR
The Research Cell at Muhammad College of Medicine (MCM) has been established to promote, guide, and oversee research activities among faculty and students. Its primary objectives are to:
Monitor and administer research programs for faculty and students, encouraging a rational and scientific approach in all academic activities.
Provide necessary infrastructure and resources for research, including well-equipped computer labs, access to reputed journals in the library, and other essential facilities.
Develop and implement policies and resources related to student research, research mentoring, and research output requirements such as abstracts and articles.
Ensure that patient well-being and patients’ rights are protected in all research activities.
Maintain high ethical standards throughout the research process.
Incorporate cultural considerations into research planning and execution.
Oversee all research undertaken within the organization under the Department of Medical Research.
Involve undergraduate medical students in research activities to support the achievement of the institution’s Vision.

To effectively meet the above objectives, the following committees have been established:

Technical Review Committee – to assess initially submitted research proposals
Research Management Sub-Committees – for Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences
Research Ethics Committee – addressing ethical issues related to research projects

Scope of Research Activities
The research activities covered under this policy include:
Credentialed specialists and staff of MCM as researchers.
Patients of MCM-affiliated hospitals as participants.
Students of Muhammad College of Medicine.
Use of facilities, equipment, and resources of MCM and affiliated hospitals.
Access to patient records and hospital data as required for approved research.
Training and engagement of faculty, scholars, and students in basic research, survey methodologies, and research ethics.
Encouraging faculty, scholars, and students to undertake research projects, particularly during clinical years.
Conducting workshops and training sessions on medical and scientific writing, including case reports, case series, review articles, and original research manuscripts.
Supporting faculty, scholars, and students in scientific writing and manuscript development.
Facilitating collaboration with undergraduate researchers at other institutions, both locally and internationally.
Supporting the publication of research work in local and international journals.
