Muhammad College of Medicine (MCM) Library
The library is the heart of any institution, and Muhammad College of Medicine is no exception. Our library spans 5,000 square feet and is meticulously equipped with temperature control to ensure a comfortable environment for all users. Located on the second floor of the college, the library is easily accessible to students, faculty, and researchers from Muhammad College of Medicine and the Muhammad Teaching Hospital
Library Layout and Resources:-
The library is divided into three main sections: the E-Library Section, Reference & Archives Section, and General Section. The E-Library features 130 workstations with access to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Digital Library, providing a vast collection of digital resources. The Reference Section houses a comprehensive collection of reference materials, while the General Section offers a broad range of books, journals, and other resources.
Library Services and Facilities:-
The library can accommodate over 150 students at a time, providing a conducive environment for studies, teaching, and research. Students can utilize library resources with their Library cards. Our library is one of the most well-organized academic libraries in the region, with a collection of books classified using the Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. We regularly update our collection with new titles to enhance student education and provide faculty members with the latest resources.
Digital Resources and Facilities:-
The E-Library offers an extensive collection of CDs, DVDs, and audio-visual materials. Registered library members can access the library catalog, HEC digital library, e-books on LAN, and other digital resources using the Management Information System (MIS) software. Our library is committed to promoting inquiry and critical thinking by providing access to information resources tailored to the needs of students and faculty.

The library serves as a central part of the academic institute, providing educational resources to support college work and primarily serving the faculty and students of the Medical College. Our mission is to facilitate students, faculty, and researchers in their studies, teaching, and research by offering a comprehensive collection of resources and promoting effective library practices.

(B):-Technical Services
The Technical Services department is responsible for the behind-the-scenes operations that ensure the smooth functioning of the library. Our key areas of focus include:
- Acquisitions: We procure library materials through various means, including purchases, gifts, donations, and deposits under legal agreements. This process enables us to expand our collection and provide users with relevant resources.
- Cataloging and Classification: We organize library materials by assigning relevant metadata, subject headings, and classification numbers. This process enables users to easily locate and access the resources they need.
- Binding and Preservation: We ensure the longevity of our library materials by binding and preserving books, periodicals, journals, and newspapers. This process protects these valuable resources for future generations.
- Digital Preservation: We produce digital copies of rare and valuable materials, such as rare books, to ensure their preservation and accessibility for research and study. This process involves photographic reproduction and digitization to create a digital archive.
By focusing on these technical services, we aim to provide our users with a well-organized, accessible, and sustainable collection of library materials.
(C):-Reader Advisory Services
Our library offers a range of services designed to support and enhance the research and learning experience of our users. These services include:
- Reference Services: Our experienced librarians provide expert assistance in locating and accessing relevant information, helping users find answers to their queries, and guiding them through complex research topics.
- Circulation Services: We manage the borrowing and returning of library materials, ensuring that users have access to the resources they need for their studies and research.
- Library Instructional Services: We offer training and guidance on how to effectively use library resources, including databases, online catalogs, and other digital tools.
- Readers’ Advisory Services: Our librarians provide personalized recommendations and guidance to readers, helping them discover new authors, genres, and topics of interest.
- Library Orientation Services: We welcome new users and provide an introduction to the library’s services, resources, and facilities, helping them get the most out of their library experience.
- Library Handbook: We publish a comprehensive handbook that serves as a guide to our library’s collections, services, and policies, providing users with a valuable resource to support their research and learning.

(D):-Special Services
Our library offers a range of special services designed to enhance the user experience and support the academic and professional development of our community. These services include:
- Collection Arrangement and Exhibitions: We carefully curate and arrange books, periodicals, and exhibitions to showcase relevant resources, promote learning, and foster a sense of community.
- Publication Distribution: We distribute publications from schools, colleges, and universities, providing access to valuable research and scholarly works.
- Professional Development Opportunities: We organize seminars, conferences, and workshops for professional librarians, providing a platform for knowledge sharing, skills development, and networking.
- Technology and Multimedia Services: We offer computer facilities and audio-visual equipment, supporting the diverse needs of our users and enabling them to access and utilize a wide range of digital resources.

Library Membership
Eligibility and Registration
Library Card
– Student Library Card: Students can use their Specific form & Library card.
– Employee Library Card: Employees, including faculty, consultants, and administrative staff, can use their Specific form & Library card.
Terms and Conditions :-
– Non-Transferability: The library card is non-transferable and can only be used by the authorized cardholder.
– Identification: Members are required to present their library card for identification and borrowing purposes.
– Lost or Stolen Cards: In case of a lost or stolen card, employees must report to the Human Resource Department, while students must report to the Student Affairs Department. Duplicate cards may be issued in accordance with library policy.
By registering for library membership, users agree to abide by the library’s rules and regulations.
Library Rules and Regulations :-
To ensure a conducive and respectful environment for all users, please observe the following rules:
- Personal Belongings: Please deposit your personal handbags, books, and other items at the Circulation Desk. The library is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
- Mobile Devices: Keep your mobile devices secure at all times. The library is not liable for any loss or damage.
- Phone Usage: Refrain from making or receiving phone calls within the library.
- Borrowing Books: Books are lent in good condition. Borrowers will be charged double the cost of the book if it is returned damaged or with missing pages.
- Study Area: Sitting on study desks or tables is not allowed.
- Food and Drink: Eating, drinking, and smoking are prohibited within the library premises.
- Borrowing Limits: Faculty and students can borrow a maximum of 3 books at a time.
- Loan Period: General books are issued for 15 days. Renewal is subject to availability.
- Reference Materials: Reference books, medical journals, and newspapers are for in-library use only, except for photocopying purposes.
- Library Membership Card: Please bring your library membership card when borrowing or returning books.
- Proxy Borrowing: Borrowing books on behalf of others is not allowed.
- Class Lectures: Books cannot be taken out of the library for class lectures.
- Silence: Maintain complete silence within the library. Avoid discussions or conversations that may disturb others.
- Re-shelving Books: Please do not reshelf books. Leave them on the designated shelves.
- Computer Use: A computer is available for CD use. Prior permission is required to use personal CDs or flash drives.
- Care of Library Materials: Handle library materials with care, as replacement can be difficult due to high costs.
- Disciplinary Action: Any damage to library materials or violation of these rules will result in serious disciplinary action.
Following these rules, we can maintain a respectful and productive environment for all users.
